From El Mac’s site:
This print is based on my painting of the greek goddess Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld. She was forced to live in the Underworld with Hades for a third of every year, representing the change of seasons, fertility, and harvest. She has been portrayed in art thousands of times throughout the centuries due to the enduring and universal nature of her myth, and probably partly because she allows artists a great opportunity to depict a beautiful “damsel in distress”. This is just my humble take on it, and I tried to make it as beautiful as possible. She is bathed in Pomegranate red light, resigned to her fate, and aware of her own beauty. This beauty brings spring and summer, life and growth, while also bringing eventual winter, death, and decay.
