Striking Color, decay, uncomfortable sagging small eyed characters with bloated bodies and dripping orphuses is what to expect when you step in to the world of Mexican Artist Satterugly (aka Mala influncia). Satterugly’s art is the by product of his own restless thoughts and a endless cycles of self healing. His work is primarily portraits of his own unresolved internal turmoil manifested into these disturbing yet extremely likable, beautiful and truthful characters.

As a society, especially in America we tend focus on the “bright” side of life and live in a world discomfort is to be avoided at all cost. Scatterugly’s world see’s through the lens of discomfort and confronts it head on. His skill enables him to transforms the dark into light and provides us with a objects of reflection and meditation. A document of our human nature. It is this world where we learn, where we become compassionate and sympathetic and connect with our own humanity.

Although his work is dark in nature, humanity, his humorous humorous tone, aesthetic beauty and rich color palette offset’s the user merely walking away depressed. When I look at his work I feel as thought I am looking at a group of the abandoned or forgotten people or emotions that need my attention. Satterugly’s own personal journey into these hidden caverns in his mind, becomes our journey. I look forward to continue seeing the work of this exciting artist.

Where are you from?
I’m from Guadalajara Jalisco México

When did you start painting?
I started doing Tag in 1997 for fun with my friends from school, but always drew as a child, I liked the comics always influenced the design later when I started using aerosol incorporate some drawings and I started searching my own style.

Why is creating art on the street important to you?
I feel that is the most comprehensive work in which you can specify a certain way because the expression on the street is somewhat ephemeral and so I think that your work has a greater impact still some important avenue of the city to be in a canvas in your studio or in any gallery, people have more opportunity to see your work on the street because in some way or another are always happening around you and somehow you know it’s fun for people who always passes through the neighborhood watch a crazy thing that a day before was not jajajaja, is that moment where your work generates an explosion of emotions in each person who is watching, that’s the most important being in the street .

Does your work have an overall message, or meaning?
Yes of course I have, my work is based on a refinement of my interior, which attempt to heal, is a necessity, you know how to go to shit or throw some discomfort at the time that you discard what you feel liberated happy and feel that now everything will be fine, but it’s like a boomerang that keeps coming back then, I always have something new that I want to get something that suits me and so I feel bad and the only way to feel good is painting it is as if something was inside me and tell me this or draw what you draw another, as if he were someone other than the default and moved me to do so.
And sometimes it has no meaning for people or anyone else but it is only a waste, something that came out of my hands is like the shit that comes out of ass jajjajaja ..!

is cleaning bro..

Many of of the figures in your work seemed weighted down, they have sagging skin, beautiful yet sometimes grotesque. Is there a reason for this?
Yes, it’s the way I can express my view of the other side of life, is like the alter ego in us all, this dark side that we all have but always want to hide so nobody can see what monsters humans can be with our environment, somehow my way is to tell people how I feel around what happens around me, and it’s my way of protesting against things that we do not want and sometimes why we want to.
I always had that aesthetic aspects of the ugly and grotesque or distorted behavior, I feel that we have always carried the wild instinct in life although we always try to hide it or want to see pink.

What would you do if you could not paint?
Musik

How do you think living in Mexico has affected your art?
I lived in Mexico all my life, so grow up with their traditions and customs as mock death while he celebrated Mass, and on the other side and all the uncertainty that exists in my country, I take fragments of everyday life but to move to the role of my brain somehow become distorted and usually reach the paper characters sad, grotesque and a little sadistic but with a funny twist that is like that of the Mexican custom of making fun of his tragedies. This also affects all pre-Hispanic culture of my country especially the pottery and the religious inclination had ritual sacrifices and high levels of madness and wild lifestyle.

Where do you see art in 100 years?
mmm … I can not imagine that situation is the planet at that time but I’m sure there will be artistic expression while living there.

Who are your favorite artist?
Jean Michel Basquiat, Anthony lister, BAST, Jay Howell, Matt Furie & Tom York of course

If you could send the world a message what would it be?
Water the plants and use the bicycle

If you have a million dollars, what would you do with it?
Live in a hotel with room service forever ..!
